It was recently revealed that Welsh goalkeeper Adam Davies suffered a medial ligament injury during the pre-season game against Lincoln.

As we know last seasons number one stopper Wes Foderingham hasn’t participated in any pre-season games yet, but he is expected to play against Mansfield Town tonight.

The injury issues in the goalkeeper department has led to Blades u23’s keeper Jordan Amissah getting the most minutes between the sticks so far this summer.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom has said that even though there are injury issues in that position, adding a goalkeeper isn’t on their transfer agenda at this stage.

He told the star

“In an ideal world, if we had endless funds in the budget to do it, we’d probably do it [sign another goalkeeper].

“But it’s a good experience for our young players, to be in and around it, and Wes [Foderingham] of course performed extremely well for us last season.”

Heckingbottom added:

“It’s Wes’ shirt and Jordan will be on the bench. We know we’ll just have to be really swift if something did happen to Wes, an emergency loan.”

United could potentially look at bringing in Alex Smithies, who was reportedly ready to sign for the club last summer, before United brought in Swedish international goalkeeper Robin Olsen.
