Sheffield United’s long awaited capture of Southend United midfielder Ryan Leonard could now be close to an end.

Sky Sports have reported this evening that they ‘understand’ a deal between both clubs is now close to be being done and that the 25 year old could soon be ours.

They speculate the fee will be around the £700,000 mark and that he’s travelling this evening to undergo a medical and discuss what they say will be a three and a half year deal.

United have been in previously for Leonard but Southend wouldn’t do the deal, but we finally appear to have offered a price that leaves them comfortable.

Leonard is a firm fan favourite at Roots Hall having made over 250 appearances for them and he’s won their Player of the Year award three times, with fans voting for him in 2013/14, 2015/16 and 2016/17.
