Top of the League

I watched the game on Sky last night, would have liked to have been there but I don`t get to many away matches particularly on Saturdays more than any other time due to my lads` footy commitments. I agree with CW that the performance for much of the game wasn`t full-on as we have been used to with a few mistakes here and there, but for Sharp to open the scoring after just two minutes was brilliant.

We did look good in front of the onion bag, but had a few periods of losing the ball and giving Leeds the opportunity to counter-attack. It didn`t really matter though, even with the performance we managed to take all three points away from Elland Road so it could have been a lot more if we were firing on all cylinders.

Brooks` first senior goal was brilliant. The way he took the chance by more or less passing the ball into the back of the net, keeping composure throughout even with being chased down by defenders and the pressure of getting his first goal for the club, shows that he`s going to grow into a good, talented player in the future. It is ideal that we`ve pinned him down with a four year deal, and to be honest I think this is the place for him to be, having seen others take the exit door with the lure of higher wages somewhere else, only to find themselves sat on the bench. At least he`s getting games and broadening his experience as well as learning from the best.

It was disappointing that Fleck got a card which puts him out of the QPR match, but at least he`ll be back to a clean sheet after serving that ban. I think the ref was a bit harsh but some may say either side should have been a man down in the second half. Phillips for Leeds should have gone for an early bath after his challenge on Baldock, but with the incident in the second half with a Leeds player pushing Duffy off when he was subbed, and the following melee, Fleck pushed their lad who went to the ground, so I`m sure they will say in the rules of the game that should have been a dismissal, but you`re going to get that in derby matches and Fleck didn`t initiate the incident. Anyway, I`m sure the ref wouldn`t have bothered anyway as there`s a few Leeds players that hit the deck throughout the match having been “tackled” trying to draw free-kicks.

We`ve a couple of tough matches coming up next, QPR away, and then Hull at BDTBL. We need to up our game a bit to take points away from these matches, but at least Harry isn`t at Hull anymore so hopefully we can grab the points when they visit.

I`m hoping Wolves and Cardiff fluff up today and keep us top. I`ll also have to listen to a different radio station this afternoon as I can`t be bothered listening to Wendy fans whinging on praise or grumble after they get tonked by the Dingles at lunchtime.

UTB!!
