Sheffield United are expected to be without former Rangers, Blackpool, and Coventry City midfielder John Fleck for months after being ruled with a fractured leg, sustained in the 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

The Scottish international, aged 31, has made 251 appearances in all competitions for Sheffield United since signing on a free transfer from Coventry City in July 2016, and played a crucial part in Chris Wilder’s side as United won the League One title as a cantor with 100 points, and as they finished as Championship runners-up in 2019.

He failed to feature in the Blades 1-1 draw at Luton Town on Friday night with Heckingbottom revealing that he sustained the injury during the victory over Blackburn Rovers. The gaffer told the BBC; “He took some big knocks in the game and it wasn’t settling down. So we sent him to be scanned and an X-ray showed up a fracture. He’s going to be out for a while.”

When asked about Fleck’s recovery, the Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom also told the BBC; “You’re talking months,” he said. “Six weeks to heal and then a bit longer.”
