This isn’t so much ‘the one that got away’, this is more ‘the one that never was’.
For every great player that comes through Sheffield United, be they through the academy like Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker and David Brooks or if we have bought them like, well take your pick from the vast majority of players that we have on our books now, there will always be those players that don’t quite make the grade or match our expectations.
But just who comes out at the top of that list of players that didn’t quite match up to their potential at the Lane?
Was Harry Maguire the best defender the Blades have had since the year 2000?
Yes
No
Well, that is what @Blades1889_com wanted to find out when they asked fans who was the one player that was promising but failed to fulfil their true potential, and the fans came up with a multitude of answers on the subject.
Few nominations.

Woodhouse. Obviously went on and had a good career but when I first saw him I genuinely thought he’d play for England and right at the top level.

Personally, I vote for Ben Woodburn, given all the talk about him potentially playing for England, for him to produce so little since then has been a bit of a let-down.
is Woodburn Welsh?
He is, but there was talk after he made his Liverpool debut that he might ‘switch’ to England
