The waiting game

When the Blades fans joined with the away end in booing Rob Styles it was partly because of what he did to us last season, partly because McCann’s red card looked unjustified and partly because it seemed certain that he’d saved Bryan Robson’s job. As it happened, what followed the sending off meant it was probably the worse thing that could have happened to Robson and therefore the best thing that could’ve happened to Sheffield United.

This was Bryan Robson’s Sheffield United at their disinterested worst. Even against ten men they just didn’t trouble Scunthorpe. At times it seemed the visitors had the extra man as they found their passes with ease. Ugo Ehiogu made his expected departure with injury, I wonder how much cash he’ll take out of the club whilst on the treatment table. A central midfield pairing of Tonge and Speed looked horribly short of mobility. Speed’s best days look a long, long way behind him and if we insist on playing him, like an injured batsman, he needs a runner alongside him.

It’s hard to praise any of the players. I suppose Morgan did his job and looked half interested, that’s about as good as it got.

The anti-Robson chants started in force during the second half and were fairly vicious. Is singing ‘United hate ****ing Robson’ crossing the line or just getting the point across with force? Regardless, I can’t help feeling a small degree of sympathy for Robson. That sympathy fades with every day that he refuses to walk away though.

Will McCabe act? He told Radio Sheffield, presumably via text or email, to reassure the fans that he would deal with the situation with a cool head and success in mind. A bit of a nothing statement really but if he has success in mind then he must get rid of Robson immediately. I went for a few beers after the match with a couple of WBA fans and they’re praying they get the chance to mock Robson on Tuesday night. I’m praying he’s gone before then.

What do you think? Will Robson go today? Can it get any worse? Post your thoughts
