The plan for Gordon to leave on loan

Last season Kyron Gordon was moved into the first team after Chris Basham suffered an injury, as well as Charlie Goode who signed on loan in the January transfer window.
Although at a tender age of 20, Gordon proved to be a reliable option to cover the right centre-back spot. He started 4 games across February and March, sharing the role with Ben Davies while Basham was recovering.
Gordon showed that age is just a number during that difficult injury spell for the Blades. He wasn’t out of his depth playing at Championship level, but it isn’t ideal having to rely on a young defender who is still developing physically and tactically.
Paul Heckingbottom knows this, and that’s why in a recent interview he had this to say about the young defender:
“If we’re not using Kyron I would love for him to get out and get league football. I said that to him last season that I think he’d benefit a hell of a lot from it. For him personally and his development for him to be competing for a first team shirt would be good for him. For me with Kyron, he needs that next step. He needs first team every day” [Yorkshire Live]
