Blades Chief-Executive Trevor Birch has hinted that that Gary Speed could be given funds to spend in the transfer window.
With just under two weeks remaining, United’s squad is still looking thin, but Birch suggested Speed is likely to be finding a deal.
‘Hopefully Gary will be able to utilise the remaining part of the transfer window.
‘That’s something we are working very hard on to enable him to do.
Following on from this, he commented on Speed’s position in charge of the team, giving him his full backing.
‘Gary is very much his own man. The position of manager here is sacrosanct. He will dictate who comes in, he will dictate the style of play and he will call the shots.’
‘You can see by the length of the deal we’ve given Gary that we do not see this as a short-term thing.’
What is interesting to note in Birch’s words, are there’s no mention of who dictates the players to leave the club. Who said this was a new start?
