Oxford United boss Chris Wilder is the new favourite to take over the Bramall Lane hot seat.

SkyBet have Wilder as 6/4 favourite to take over at Sheffield United, a club where he started his playing career.

The Sheffield born former full back made over 100 appearances in his two separate spells at the club.

Wilder has been manager at Oxford since 2008 and led the side back to the Football League in his first full season at the Kassam Stadium.

The 45-year-old recently accepted a new one-year deal with the club despite missing out on the League Two play-offs.

Long-time favourite, Martin Allen is now 7/1, along with former player Stuart McCall and current caretaker manager Chris Morgan.

Former boss Neil Warnock is next in the betting at 8/1.

The blades will now step up their search for a new manager following their failure in the League One Play-offs after going out to Yeovil Town over the Bank Holiday weekend.

  • No, thank you. Every out of work manager will now be linked to S2, but Chris Wilder is not a contender. I suspect Morgs will end up with the job, I would have Warnock back tomorrow, no team of his would have shown the constant gutless performances of our bunch of over paid has beens.

  • Hi Herringthorpe, morgs will get the job cos he will be cheap. i wouldnt appoint him this time but i wouldnt like to see him leave the club either, he has drive and energy, something lacking within the club. if our so called experienced (expensive) players had ten percent of morgs character we would have escaped this awful division by now.
