Sheffield United boss David Weir says he is still looking to bolster his squad ahead of the new season but admits he is not close to any new signings at the moment.

Weir brought in four players earlier this week as he looks to put a stamp on the squad that he has inherited.

Febian Brandy, Stephen McGinn, Sean McGinty and Jasper Johns all arrived at the club and Weir says he wants to bring more players in.

Speaking in the Sheffield Telegraph , Weir said, “As a manager, you are always looking. That`s the nature of the job. You have always got to be looking to improve your side.

“I would like to bring in more players but I understand the constraints here. We are not really close to bringing anyone else in.”

Weir may have a battle to hold onto two of rising stars at Bramall Lane.

Goalkeeper George Long, who is currently away with the England under-20 squad at the World Cup finals in Turkey and defender Harry Maguire, cleaned up at the end of season awards dinner.

The pair won many admirers during the course of last season and with United failing to win promotion back to the championship, clubs from the top two divisions are monitoring the situation with it common knowledge that the blades are having to vastly reduce their budget as they prepare for a third season in League One.
