Former Everton defender David Weir is the latest name to be linked with the vacant manager`s position at Sheffield United.

The 43-year-old is currently in charge of the Everton reserve team side but despite being asked to continue his role by new boss Roberto Martinez, it seems Weir is ready for the challenge of first team management.

The vastly experienced defender, who made over 700 career appearances during his time as a player is believed to have been interviewed by the club this week as they continue their search for a new boss.

Weir is the latest in a whole host of names to be linked with the job. Former Bramall Lane favourite Brian Deane was linked with the job earlier in the week. Deane is currently cutting his teeth in management with Norwegian side Sarpsborg.

Keith Curle and Michael Appleton also continue to be amongst the favourites for the job along with Chris Morgan who took temporary charge of the side following the dismissal of Danny Wilson in April.
