New Sheffield United boss David Weir says he has been impressed by the attitude of his new squad after the players returned to training this week.

Weir joined up with his squad for the first time earlier this week and the former Everton and Glasgow Rangers defender says he couldn`t have asked for more from the blades squad.

Speaking on the official website , Weir said, ‘I’ve been very impressed with the buy-in from the players, in terms of taking on board our early ideas.

‘Myself and the staff cannot ask for more than the boys have given us in terms of work rate and we are looking forward to doing more next week.

‘I can honestly say that I’ve not seen any signs or picked up any vibes of a hangover from last season, I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen so far.”

Weir also welcomed his four new signings, Febian Brandy, Stephen McGinn, Sean McGinty and Jasper Johns to the club this week.

The players will now prepare for the start of the new season, which starts on Friday August 2nd with a home game against Notts County at Bramall Lane.

The squad have been training at Shirecliffe before departed for Scotland at the start of next week for three friendlies starting with a game at Greenock Moreton next Wednesday.
