Sheffield United boss David Weir admits he is interested in signing Falkirk striker Lyle Taylor.

The 23-year-old netted 29 times last season for the Scottish First Division side and Weir says he is definitely on his radar.

Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Weir said, “He is definitely a player that we have got an interest in but until things are done then I don`t want to talk about specific players or targets but he is a player who we have to be interested in.

“He has scored a lot of goals at a decent level in Scotland and he is definitely one who is on our radar.”

The striker started out at youth level with Millwall before drifting into non-league football after failing to make an appearance for the London club.

He signed for League One side Bournemouth in 2010 but failed to win a regular place in the starting line-up in his two seasons at Dean Court with twenty-one of his thirty-four appearances coming from the bench. During his second season, he had a short spell on loan with League Two side Hereford where he netted twice in eight appearances.

Following his release by Bournemouth in the summer of 2012, he was signed by Falkirk and he made an instant impression in pre-season when he netted a hat trick in a 7-3 home defeat to Middlesbrough.

He scored twice on his competitive debut for Falkirk, against Stirling in the League Cup and he went on to score in his first three competitive games for the club.

He made 42 appearances last season, netting 29 times, including two hat tricks in the space of three games either side of Christmas and his form helped Falkirk reach the Scottish Cup semi-final, where they lost 4-3 to Hibernian after leading 3-0.

Rotherham United and Hibernian are also reported to be keen to sign the player. Falkirk had agreed a deal with Rotherham earlier this summer for the striker to move to South Yorkshire in a deal worth around £200,000 but Taylor turned down the move after failing to agree personal terms.

The striker has a year remaining on his current deal at Falkirk.
