Sheffield United have announced that they have a shortlist of around seven candidates for the vacant managerial post.

The club announced on their official website that they have seven serious contenders, including current caretaker manager Chris Morgan, who took over from Danny Wilson in April.

Julian Winter, who has returned as chief executive of the club told the official website , ‘We have had a significant volume of applications; of sufficient quality, probably around 20. But obviously we have shortlisted considerably lower than that number because individuals wouldn’t fit the managerial profile we have had to devise.

‘The shortlist is around seven, but I am not going to comment on any other applicant other than Chris (Morgan).”

Morgan has already expressed his desire to take the job on a full time basis despite failing in the play-offs, going out to Yeovil Town over two legs.

Oxford United boss Chris Wilder is the current favourite to take over with Stuart McCall and Gareth Southgate next in the betting market.
