Chris Porter made a dream debut for Shrewsbury Town on Friday night, helping Sheffield United in the process.

Porter joined Shrewsbury in midweek for a month from Bramall Lane and it took him just ten minutes to get off the mark against promotion chasing Tranmere Rovers.

The striker was on hand to fire home after Tranmere goalkeeper Owain Fon-Williams dropped the ball at his feet.

It was a busy night for Porter who could quite easily have had a hat trick. In the second half, he totally missed his kick with the goal at his mercy and teammate David McAllister then blazed over.

He then saw a shot tipped over by Fon Williams with the Cameron Gayle scoring from the resulting corner to secure the points for the visitors.

It was a bad night all round for Tranmere who would have gone back to the top of League One with a victory. They were reduced to ten men after just five minutes when Liam Palmer was sent off for what referee Mark Brown deemed a dangerous tackle. The defeat, a third in a row for Tranmere, means Sheffield United could move back into the automatic promotion places this afternoon with a home victory over Colchester United.
