What a brilliant afternoon

Okay, so this is definitely my last match before I deploy abroad next week. What a match experience to depart with though.

Around 6000 Blades fans made the trip to Villa Park and packed out the away end and some of the adjoining home end. I thought this was brilliant, being able to take this many supporters to a special day out. We were far the noisier end of the ground, with constant singing, which put the home team to shame!

Pre-kick off, it was nice to see and hear Matt Lowton get a round of applause from the Blades fans.

The side played a totally different game, comparing it to the Walsall game. They kept attacking, and showing Villa that they were there to give them a game. I think the whole team performed above and beyond for this game, and hopefully they can take this mentality back to the league.

With so many players on the out, and not a signing as yet, it`s narrowed down the squad, and hopefully we can hold onto what we have for the rest of the season. I hope we can bring in a good striker though. Porter had a good game, although he lacks the pace and the strength to make his presence felt.

I felt that Flynn and McMahon on the right for United worked well as a pair, overlapping to get the ball forward. Flynn`s goal was superb; he deserves more of these for his efforts.

The referee gave a few questionable decisions, which annoyed me slightly, as we seem to get bad refs at league games and some of the decisions that went against us today were below par. I don`t know how some refs get away with poor performances though, if you`re a manager and complain, you seem to get charged by the FA over your comments. However, nothing seems to be done for improving the standards of refs. You could see Clough`s frustration with the poor decisions, waving his arms and stamping his feet.

Having said that though, we have to congratulate the squad on a brilliant result, showing their determination to play through these decisions and take the game to the home side.

I`ll continue to follow the results from afar, and hopefully get back in time for the last match of the season.

As always, UTB!
