Sheffield United caretaker manager Chris Morgan felt his side deserved the three points after beating Port Vale 2-1 on Saturday.

The win for the blades was their first since the opening day of the season and Morgan admitted after the game that he didn`t care how they secured the three points, as long as they did.

Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Morgan said, “However we got the result today, we just needed a result and three points.

“Whether it was scrappy or a good footballing performance, we just needed a result and I think we deserved the win.

“We created a number of chances and we could have scored more goals.”

The blades won thanks to goals from Neil Collins and Mike Doyle.

Collins gave the blades an early lead when he headed home and things looked to have been made easier for them when Daniel Jones was sent off for Vale just twenty-minutes into the game.

It looked like being one of those days when after dominating the first half, Vale drew level on the stroke of half time thanks to a fortuitous effort from Adam Yates, who saw his cross sail into the net.

The blades were not to be denied though and Mike Doyle fired United ahead for a second time with just fifteen minutes remaining to secure a first league win in eleven games.

The win lifts United out of the relegation zone and they can now prepare for a tough game at Peterborough United on Tuesday night.
