SUFC Morgan – Defeat was cruel

Sheffield United caretaker manager Chris Morgan felt his side didn`t deserve to lose after seeing his side beaten 2-1 on aggregate with a late Yeovil winner at Huish Park.

The blades blew their first leg advantage within five minutes of the start when Kevin Dawson got in behind the United defence to beat George Long.

Yeovil won the tie with five minutes remaining when Ed Upson found himself unmarked to head past Long.

It was harsh on United who had controlled large periods of the game after going behind and only the width of a crossbar denied Murphy a first half equaliser.

Morgan told BBC Radio Sheffield, ‘It’s cruel. I have said to the players that we don’t deserve that, but sometimes you don’t get what you deserve. It’s the worst way to lose, but we have to take it on the chin and come back to mount another challenge.

‘As the game grew, I thought, with the players we had on the pitch, we might sneak one. Did we create enough to win it on the day? Probably not, but the players we’ve got have given us everything.”

United have struggled to find goals in the second half of the season since the sale of Nick Blackman to Reading on transfer deadline day.

Blackman had netted thirteen times for United in the first half of the season.

They have failed to score in nine of their last fifteen games and they have only managed to score more than two goals in one game since his departure.
