New Sheffield United signing Sean McGinty says he is looking to become a regular for the blades and he thinks his versatility will help his cause.

The 19-year-old signed a two-year deal at Bramall Lane last week after being released by Manchester United at the end of last season.

McGinty was one of the last players to be released by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, many believing he was released after having his loan deal at Tranmere Rovers cut short for disciplinary reasons.

The youngster was sent back to Old Trafford after just one week at Tranmere after he failed to turn up for training and McGinty is now looking to put it all behind him as he makes a fresh start.

‘This is a new chapter and a new start in my career and I honestly can’t wait to get started. Pre-season is underway and we have a month until the competitive action begins so we must concentrate on performing well in the friendlies,” McGinty told the official website.

During his time at Manchester United, he helped the side win the FA Youth Cup and he showed his versatility playing at both left back and in the centre of defence and he is hoping that versatility will give him more options to feature for the first team this season. ‘I want to become a regular for Sheffield United that is my aim. I am versatile and that always helps these days,’ continued McGinty.

During his time at Old Trafford, he had loan spells at Morecambe, Oxford United, Carlisle and Tranmere.

Ironically, McGinty made his Tranmere debut against Sheffield United at Prenton Park at the end of March and he made three appearances for the side from the Wirral.

He has made 11 senior appearances in the Football League and his two-year deal at Bramall Lane has seen the club take the option of extending it by a further year.

McGinty is likely to make his United debut this evening when they start their pre-season campaign with a friendly in Scotland against Greenock Moreton.
