Youngster Jasper Johns is hoping to play his part for Sheffield United this season after joining from Everton last week.

The 18-year-old, who worked with boss David Weir at Everton signed a one-year deal at Bramall Lane after being released by the Premier League club.

The versatile player, who can play in defence or midfield, says he had no hesitation when deciding to join United and he is hoping to help the side win promotion from League One.

Speaking on the official website , Johns said, ‘It is a good club for me so quickly having left Everton. Hopefully I can play a part in the forthcoming season. I played really well against United’s youth team last season and we kept in touch from that day to be honest.

‘I was obviously disappointed to be released but these things happen in football and this move proves things can develop quickly.

‘I had no hesitation coming here because this is a big club with ambition to play a lot higher than League One.’

The predominantly left footed player has represented England at under-16 level, playing in the Victory Shield and winning six caps.

He joined Everton at 14-year-old having started out at Port Vale.

David Weir said following his signing last week that he was looking to take a look at the youngster in the under-21 development squad but hopes he can be pushing for a place in the first team.
