Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson says he is not sure whether goalkeeper Mark Howard will return to the squad before the end of the season.

Howard has been out with a thigh injury since the game at Leyton Orient at the beginning of October.

The Blades number one at the start of the season was close to a return last month but suffered a setback with a reoccurrence of the injury in a development squad game and Wilson is not sure whether he will return for the season run in.

Speaking on the Sheffield United official website , Wilson said, ‘I am not too sure what will happen with Mark (Howard), this thigh problem has gone on a hell of a long time now.

‘We expected him back well before now, but he keeps suffering with these minor setbacks and we aren’t sure whether he will play again before the season finishes.

Youngster George Long, who has proved more than a capable replacement, replaced Howard in the starting line-up. Long has made 30 appearances this season keeping 14 clean sheets, including the last four games in a row.

United have also boosted their ranks with the signing of experienced goalkeeper Danny Coyne. Coyne signed for United at the start of November and he is still waiting to make his debut for the club. The 39-year-old, who was released by Middlesbrough last season recently extended his short-term deal by a further month.
