Sheffield United assistant manager Andy Garner says the side were superb after securing a crucial three points against fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers.

The United management spoke ahead of the game about making a fast start, they never looked back after taking the lead inside ten minutes through Jamie Murphy, and Garner felt the side were at it from start to finish.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield, Garner said, “It was superb. We said before the game that it was vital we got three points and the players were magnificent from start to finish.

“We wanted to be more positive, have a really good go at them and the first goal helped us and we took it on from there.”

Jose Baxter doubled the lead for United early in the second half as he scored his fourth goal in five games. Ryan Flynn added a third for United halfway through the half as they once again cut through the Tranmere defence.

Not even a late consolation from Austin Taylor could dampen a good performance from United who move up to 17th in League One.

The blades are now unbeaten in eight games and both manager Nigel Clough and striker Jose Baxter must be in the running for manager and player of the month in the division after an impressive December that has seen them take eight points from four games as well as progress through to the FA Cup Third Round.

United are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to play-off chasing Walsall.
