Sheffield United have given new deals to eight players ahead of the new season.

New United boss David Weir has given experienced defender Danny Higginbotham a new deal after he activated a clause in the short-term deal he signed in January after making a certain number of appearances.

Higginbotham made 18 appearances for United last season after arriving from Premier League side Stoke City on New Year`s Day.

Youngsters Callum McFadzean, Aaron Barry, Jordan Chapell, Jordan Hodder, Terry Kennedy, Jahmal Smith and Elliott Whitehouse have all been rewarded with new deals by the club.

McFadzean, Chapell, Kennedy and Whitehouse all made first team appearances for United last season.
