Sheffield United midfielder Michael Doyle says they need to put the disappointment of another play-off defeat behind them and get the fans believing again next season.

United lost out in the play-offs for a second season in a row with a two-leg defeat to Yeovil Town and whilst Doyle expects it to be a tough league next season, he says the players need to be ready from the off next season.

‘It will be a tough league with the likes of Wolves, Peterborough, Preston and Rotherham coming up, but we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves, hit the ground running and get some early points on the board,” Doyle told the official website .

‘It has been a disappointing two years but we need to get the fans believing again.”

It was a disappointing end to the season for United who were well placed for an automatic promotion place until a run of just two wins from their final eleven league games saw them eventually finish in fifth.

Despite winning the first leg at Bramall Lane 1-0 against Yeovil in the play-offs, a goal in the first five minutes of the return leg at Huish Park brought the tie level.

United had a number of chances in the first half to go ahead once again but failed to take their chances and they were made to pay when Ed Upson scored for Yeovil with just five minutes remaining to condemn United to a third season in the third tier.

The blades have still to name a successor to former manager Danny Wilson who was fired with five games remaining.

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson is the current 2/1 favourite with Sky Bet.

  • a staggering one liner from our brilliant skipper! maybe he needs to tell his over paid has-beens that. no effort, no passion from the players so what does he expect from the fans? he would be top of my release list.

  • He is one of a number of the so called experienced players who needed to step up to the plate when things got tough. They didnt, just like they didnt when Ched Evans got banged up after the Rochdale game the season before. Micksilver, is there room for a few more in that taxi – McDonald, Porter, Kitson, Hill, Higgo, or do we need to hire a stretched limo? I’ll pay.

  • anyone noticed the huge volume of garbage the official web site is putting out? do they think we are all really that stupid?
