Sheffield United boss David Weir says Michael Doyle will remain as the clubs captain for the new season.

Doyle was the club captain last season and new boss Weir says there is no reason to make a change after being impressed with Doyle during pre-season.

“Michael Doyle has been the captain and he will continue to be the captain,” Weir told Radio Sheffield.

“He has been great in pre-season and there is no reason to change things.”

The 32-year-old has made over 50 appearances in each of his two seasons at Bramall Lane since arriving from Coventry City in 2011. He missed just three games last season through suspension when he was sent off against Scunthorpe United in September.
