New Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough was a delighted man after seeing his new team secure their biggest win of the season.

Clough watched on as the blades beat Crewe Alexandra 3-1 at Bramall Lane to make it seven points in three games and the new boss was also quick to praise Chris Morgan, who took temporary charge following the dismissal of David Weir.

“I am delighted with the three points and the response from the players,” Clough told Radio Sheffield.

“I think Chris Morgan takes a lot of credit for what he has done this week, seven points out of nine in the position we are in is a great return.

“We ran out of steam late on but we had already done the damage with the three goals.”

The blades were in total control by the half hour mark, as defender Harry Maguire scored his third and fourth goals of the season.

Maguire headed home from close range for both his goals as Stephen McGinn showed his quality from set pieces.

Ryan Flynn scored a third early in the second half to wrap the game up and even a late consolation from Crewe substitute Max Clayton could dampen the mood as Clough made a fantastic start.

The win moves the blades out of the bottom four and they will now hope to climb away from the danger zone.
