After impressing on loan at the end of last season Steve Simonsen was a welcome arrival at Bramall Lane in the summer.

However, after a shaky start, the former Everton man never endeared himself to the Blades faithful who were more accustomed to ironic cheers, than genuine applause. There were highlights during the season, with some fine saves, and some will argue with the lack of confidence in the players in front of him, it’s no wonder he looked shaky at times.

Signing from Premier League Stoke, it’s unlikely Simonsen will have come cheap, and if a buyer is out there, could become a casualty of the cost-cutting over the Summer.

Highlight: His stunning display that guaranteed a clean sheet, and rescued a point in the 0-0 draw at Coventry City.

Lowlight: A number of errors, summed up by dropping a corner in his own goal against Bristol City.

End of season grade: C-

  • Grade C is right. Simo provided us with some horrific memories over the season, for me the worst was at Forest, but he did pull off some great reflex saves, trouble is the horrors far outweigh the saves!
