Abysmal was (arguably) the best way to describe Sheffield United’s performance at Turf Moor this afternoon as they crashed to a 5-0 defeat – with the Clarets earning their first home victory of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side had slipped to a one-goal deficit within a minute after former England international, Jay Rodriguez, finished from close range with a stooping header. From then on, it was a downward spiral as the Blades were reduced to ten men in stoppage time after Oli McBurnie picked up his second booking of the game following an elbow.

Before the break, the hosts had already doubled their lead and United had been forced into a change after George Baldock was replaced at 25 minutes by Jayden Bogle. The Blades managed an unacceptable 36% ball possession throughout the 90 minutes. Matters were made worse when Burnley added three further goals in the second half to complete a woeful day at the office for the Red and White Wizards.
