Splashing the cash. Blades target midfielder in January raid

Sheffield United have set their sights on staying in the Premier League, after setting their stalls out in this early part of the Premier League campaign. There is however still a long way to go, and with the January transfer window now firmly open, clubs up and down the country will be looking to bolster their squad for the final stretch of the season.

This is no different for eighth placed Blades, although in a strong position they remain nine points ahead of the bottom three relegation spots. Chris Wilder will be looking to avoid a situation where the Blades are looking over their shoulder with a fear of relegation looming, but a run of defeats could put them in that danger.

United have already added to their squad with the free transfer of former Manchester City and Everton defender/midfielder Jack Rodwell, who has signed until the end of the season. Further to the former England international’s signature, United have been linked with a £17million move for defensive-midfielder Mady Camara, 22 from Greek side Olympiakos, where he has featured in the Champions League this season.

Camara, who has 11 Guinean caps to his name, was subject to a £8.5million bid from Watford last summer, but this was rejected.

Only time will tell if the Blades will mount a serious bid for the young midfielder, but it would show that United mean business in staying in the Premier League, and possibly improving on their position next season.
