Sheffield United manager Gary Speed has criticised his sides’ lack of passion in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at rivals Doncaster Rovers.

The Blades, who have put in some impressive performances away from home recently, were shell shocked at the Keepmoat where they had no reply to goals from Billy Sharp and Jamie Coppinger.

‘I have such a good bunch of lads who give me 100% every time, so this tendency in recent games has surprised me. What they have to learn is that they can’t play well every week, you have off days, but when you do and your passing is not what it should be, then you have to make up for it in other areas with passion and determination. I watched QPR on Friday night and they weren’t at their best, but they made up for it, scrapping and making things difficult for their opponents to get a draw out of it.”

Speed, who watched the game from the stands, whilst serving a one game touchline ban did have some sympathy following the game, but not towards the players.

‘Our supporters were brilliant throughout and I apologise to them for that first-half performance.’
