We’ve handed professional contracts to no fewer than six of our second-years scholars, who have all impressed enough into earning these first professional deals.

These deals, which are for a year, were signed by ‘keeper Jake Eastwood, defender Ioan Evans, strikers Daniel Cockerline and Jake Wright and midfielders Kler Heh and David Brooks, with them confirmed on the Official Website this week.

They follow in the footsteps of Louis Reed, who agreed a long-term deal last summer and is a regular in the first-team, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in making the move through the academy to become pros at Bramall Lane.

Academy manager Nick Cox feels that this once again shows the commitment that we have to bringing players through, a move that Nigel Clough heavily backs too.

‘We are really pleased to see eight players achieve professional deals with the club.

‘This is a large number and it demonstrates the club’s commitment to developing young players.

‘The manager is a huge advocate of giving young players time to develop within the system. Of all the lads to sign, six were born and raised locally and that is something else to be proud of.’

I look forward to seeing some, if not all, making moves into the first-team squad in the not too distant future all being well.
