It was being reported in the national press the other day that Brighton manager Chris Hughton had turned his attentions towards Sheffield United centre-half Jack O’Connell.

With Brighton speculated to be chasing Reading’s Liam Moore but the Madejski Stadium outfit holding out for £15million for a deal to be done, that would be pricey for the Premier League side as he would be arriving at the Amex as cover only.

As the story progressed, it was rumoured they were now circling O’Connell as an alternative.

The Star however, believe there is little in this particular rumour doing the rounds as sources in both South Yorkshire and on the South Coast (I presume journalism colleagues) have suggested that even if Brighton did have a genuine interest, it’s not being followed up and United and manager Chris Wilder are completely relaxed about the situation.

With David Brooks moving on recently to Bournemouth even though the expectation was he’d stay, this is good news ahead of the new campaign as we don’t want anyone else leaving that we haven’t planned on as we look to go one further than last season in a promotion push.
