The play-offs should be all but assured for Sheff Utd now after we edged our Yorkshire rivals Doncaster in a ‘five-goal thriller’ at Bramall Lane on Tuesday, which effectively ends the Doncaster season….

Having initially trailed we came from behind to lead but having again been pegged back we eventually ran out three-two winners to move eight-points clear of Rochdale, who do have a game in hand.

Doncaster made the brighter start, and found the breakthrough first when Bennett (17) fred into the top corner early on.

Shortly ahead of the half hour mark though we had a chance to level. Baxter (29) doesn’t always convert from the spot, but it’s rare that he fails and he didn’t on Tuesday either to make it one-one.

Early in the second half Done (52) saw us come from behind to lead but Doncaster levelled in fine fashion when Bennett (59) riffled in from 25-yeards ahead of the hour to make it two-two.

Davies (71) followed up his first goal for us in our previous South Yorkshire derby win on Saturday against Barnsley with his second as he curled home what proved to be the winner with a little under 20-mintues remaining.

Wellens would have equalised for Doncaster but for a goal line clearance but our win means that they are now 10-points adrift of sixth place and highly unlikely to make up the ground needed – we have our fate very much in our own hands then it ‘should’ come down to the lottery of the play-offs….
