Towards the back end of last season the club captain Billy Sharp suffered a calf injury, just after recovering from a hamstring strain. In the end, Sharp missed a series of games in the final few weeks of the 21/22 league campaign. He was also forced to sit out the play-offs.

The 36 year-old veteran Championship striker is still currently recovering from said calf injury. The boyhood Blade detailed his injury issue to the Star:

“I came back from my hamstring which was pretty quick. I felt great. Then out of the blue, doing a little bit of extra work to get up to speed and felt a pop in my calf. I’ve never had any problems there so it was very disappointing.”

United have played four friendly games so far this season and the club legend is yet to kick a ball for the Blades. There is just under two weeks to go until the Blades kick-off their 22/23 league campaign, but Sharp insists that he will “be fit for the start of the season”.

“It’s been slower than I’d have liked. If we got to the play-off final, I’d have played no matter how it felt but I had a little setback. I’m getting older so I need to be clever. I’ll be fit for the start of the season.” [Via The Star]
