After squeezing past Port Vale on penalties in the second round, the Saints were always going to prove much stiffer opposition. This was proved right as the Saints youngsters impressively saw off the Blades challenge. With Callum McFadzean and Joe Ironside the only survivors from last year’s success and influential centre bak Terry Kennedy out due to injury, the Blades were always going to struggle against a Southampton team, that have in recent years seen Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxalde Chamberlain come through their ranks.
