Stop the presses! It appears a former Blades boss could be back in the frame, as he edges closer to the boot in charge of the Thailand national team.

Bryan Robson, who had an unsuccessful spell in charge of United after they were relegated from the Premier League is the subject of protests by the Thai people who have seen their side fail to reach the Asian Cup of Nations for the first time in 23 years.

However, despite the torrid run of results, Robson refuses to step down.

i> ‘I’m quite disappointed, I want to win and it’s results that matter. ‘As far as I’m concerned, I’m coach here fulltime,’ he said. ‘People have said I keep going back to England or to Singapore to do TV work but I’ve not left Thailand for six months, other than for matches and last season I attended 72 (local) games.

“It’s frustrating coming from the Premier League, people here do things off the cuff, it’s a big change in mentality.

Everyone here is passionate about the game and everyone is very disappointed. We couldn’t give the fans what they wanted. But there’s hope there, we have the ability.’

hailand had previously been coached by Peter Reid, who adapted to life in the east very well, before leaving to become the assistant manager at Stoke City, and ultimately head coach of Plymouth Argyle.
