Sheffield United slumped to a second successive defeat when they lost at Walsall on Tuesday night.

The Blades were looking to recover from a 3-2 defeat to Oldham at the weekend but neither side could break the deadlock in the first half, it was in the second half when all the goals came!

Sam Mantom (55) gave Walsall the lead but Sheffield United were soon level when Lee Williamson (65) struck back.

It did not take the hosts long to retake the lead when Jon Macken (73) scored but again The Blades struck back, this time instantly through Ched Evans (76).

A point wouldn’t have been what Danny Wilson would have expected against the relegation threatened Saddlers but he would have sooner taken this than nothing, which is what the visitors got when Alex Nicholls (81) struck late on to secure a 3-2 win for Walsall.

With Charlton losing Sheffield United missed the chance to reduce the deficit, but of greater concern will be the fact that Steel City rivals Wednesday won to reduce the gap on them!
