I’ll admit that the name has come somewhat out of nowhere.

But given the mantra that the club seem to be going with this summer when it comes to recruitment, it isn’t really a total surprise that we’re going down this route.

According to a report from The Daily Record, Sheffield United are the latest club to show an interest in young Rangers winger Kai Kennedy, with the 19-year-old reportedly set to leave Ibrox following his failure to sign a new deal over concerns about first-team football in the future.

Although why Sheffield United think that they’ll be able to offer him much first-team football in the immediate future, given the personnel, the ages of them and the formation that Chris Wilder plays is anyone’s guess.

I suppose he could be brought in as an insurance policy and one ‘for the future’, but even then I don’t see a lot of action for him for the reasons outlined above.

How much will the club spend this summer?

More than £50m

More than £50m

Less than £50m

Less than £50m

I’d also make the argument that given our start to the season, and Wilder saying that we need to get people in that can help us right away, I’d much rather we spend the rest of the window getting players that are going to help us this season, rather than looking further down the line.

Now obviously if things change and between now and the end of the window we get those players in, then we can turn back and go for him. But right now I’d rather we go for the players we need, rather than players we just want.

What about you? Do you think we should go after Kennedy this window?
