It looks like we’ve got even more company.

Reports from back in February suggested that the Blades were among a number of clubs interested in bringing in Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis, now though, it appears as though there is some fresh competition for his services.

According to reports in the Nigerian press (via Voetbalkrant), Newcastle United are the latest club that have shown interest in the player who is likely to cost around €30m (£25.95m on XE.com) if the Belgian side are going to let him go.

Dennis hasn’t exactly had the best of times when it comes to playing for Club Brugge, with 28 goals 10 assists across 105 games in all competitions, which averages out to just about one in four. And that goal record is part of the reason I think the Blades should just let the chase go on without them.

I’ve spoken before about my concern when it comes to the forwards at Bramall Lane and their respective goal return, and whilst I believe we could do with some additional help, I don’t think that Dennis would be the right way to go about it.

Should we pursue Emmanuel Dennis?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It’s well known that players arriving from foreign leagues can sometimes take a little long to adjust to the Premier League, and if he is struggling to put up numbers there, unless something drastic happens, I can’t see him putting up much better numbers if and when he does come over to England.

Not to mention that a fee like that would shatter the club’s transfer record, and we don’t want that to end up going down as a flop, let that fall on someone else’s shoulders rather than ours.

I’d much rather us look for that diamond in the rough kind of signing, or better yet, have the players that we’ve already got start chipping in a little bit more, and yes I’m looking at you Mr Oli McBurnie.
