One on-loan member of the Sheffield United squad has expressed his desire to stay with the club for a much longer spell.

Well this certainly is a step in the right direction. And I think it just goes to show the kind of atmosphere is being developed at Bramall Lane that he feels such a way. Speaking in an interview with Greek outlet Sport24, Panos Retsos explained that Blades boss Chris Wilder very much sees him as part of the furniture at the club:

“Yes, I would like to continue in England and Sheffield because he believes in me a lot. He has a plan for me and it’s important to get games on my feet and get even better than I was.”

This sort of goes back to what I was talking about the other day in regards to not only Retsos, but his fellow loanee Richairo Živković.

Did Živković get a fair chance when football resumed?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Even though they haven’t played that many games for the Blades this season, indeed Retsos has only got 14 minutes of action so far, there is still going to be a part for them both to play, particularly if the finish to the Premier League season is going to be a hectic one where we need all the bodies we can use. Not quite Gary Neville’s nine-day festival of football idea, but certainly if they were to cram the fixtures into a short time frame and the clubs need all the extra bodies they can get their hands on.

And it’s good to hear that Wilder also has plans for him, because it would be a bit of a shame for him to not be given a fair chance to show us that he can offer something in this division. Let’s just hope that he does eventually get that chance when this whole thing dies down, assuming it does exactly that.
