Let’s just hope this isn’t the only transfer into Bramall Lane that ends up running into a few problems.

Otherwise we could be in for a long couple of months when trying to get deals over the line.

Despite reports a few weeks ago that Sheffield United were ‘on the verge’ of completing a £3.5m move for Reading midfielder John Swift, it appears as though things aren’t going as simply as they could or perhaps should be.

According to a more recent report from talkSPORT, the Blades have had a £4m bid rejected for the 25-year-old. What has caused this latest jump in the narrative is as yet unclear, but it certainly adds a rather unnecessary stumbling block to our plans.

Would Swift be a good signing for us?

Yes

No

No

I’ve said before how much I’m in favour of this transfer, so hopefully we can get this deal over the line eventually, but I hope that penny-pinching doesn’t get in the way too much. If the difference really is a couple of million pounds here and there, then we need to be paying it, because his levels of production in the Championship demonstrate what he can offer us.

Obviously if it gets too obscene like going into the tens of millions, then back away, but given the amount of money that we have made this campaign, will the odd million here or there really have that much of an effect in the grand scheme of things?

Especially when you consider what our outgoings are, I highly doubt that we’re going to run out of money too soon.

What about you? What do you make of this news surrounding Swift?
