Report: Blades forward Lys Mousset opens up about his struggles in front of goal this season

|

Perhaps not quite as productive a season as we would have liked, but certainly a stepping stone to hopefully bring some more in next campaign.

That’s pretty much the best way to describe the 2019/20 season for Blades forward Lys Mousset. Having signed last summer for a then club record £10m from AFC Bournemouth, the forward contributed just six goals all season, although that was still enough for him to end up as our joint-top scorer.

Speaking in an interview last week with Paris-Normandie, the forward spoke about his time at Bramall Lane this season, and gave a little bit of an explanation as to why he didn’t quite score as many goals as he could have done throughout the campaign, putting some of it down to some problems that he was having off the field.

“If I was less decisive at a certain point, it’s because I wasn’t great in my head. Because I didn’t play a lot for three years at Bournemouth, I fell victim to small injuries to my knee, my Achilles”.

Has Mousset been a good buy for Sheffield United?

Yes

Yes

No

And whilst that may have played some part in his performance, something that I am very sympathetic with him for, I really do hope that he can bounce back and give us more of a return next season.

Whether it is down to him being more productive in front of goal, or Chris Wilder giving him a more consistent role within the team so that he can actually get some momentum rather than chopping and changing every week, it’s going to have to take something otherwise we could find ourselves going backwards.

What about you? Do you think Mousset will be able bounce back next year with an even greater goal return?

Give him a chance, hes had 3 years with very little game time in a struggling team, at least he gets in the six yard box and looks alert.
