Simply putting in contingency plans?

That’s the sense that I get when I read the latest reports regarding Sheffield United and their transfer targets for the summer window, but at the same time, it’s kind of sending out mixed messages.

According to reports from Turkish outlet Ajansspor, the Blades are one of a few clubs that are in pursuit of Fenerbache’s Turkish shot-stopper Altay Bayındır. The Blades face competition from ‘a number of European clubs’ including Ajax for the 22-year-old who has a value of £4.86m on Transfermarkt.

The club have reportedly been active in the transfer market for a goalkeeper previous to this, with Turkish outlet Fotospor claiming that they had a €13m offer turned down for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır.

This of course is all taking place under the backdrop of the discussion surrounding our current number one Dean Henderson, who has reportedly said that he will return to the club next season if he isn’t going to be guaranteed the starting spot at his parent club Manchester United.

So, with that all being said, what exactly is the club’s priority when it comes to the goalkeeper’s position next season?

Are Sheff Utd handling the goalkeeper situation correctly in your eyes?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Are we going all out to find someone to take the job for the next few years or so? Or are we going trying to focus all of our attention on bringing back Henderson on loan for another year (not totally unknown as Thibaut Courtois spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid) and hoping to persuade him to stay on permanently along the way?

That’s the one thing that I think Blades boss Chris Wilder needs to address at some point, just what are his plans for the spot going forward, and what would his preference be in the matter? At least give us some form of clarity when it comes to the club’s future.

What about you? How would you rather we went down this road? Pursue Henderson for a third year? Or go after someone who can take control of the number one spot for a few years to come.
