James McAtee has passed his medical ahead of his season-long loan move to Sheffield United. He is expected to be officially announced by the club within the next 24 hours, according to football insider.

The 19 year-old attacking midfielder scored 18 goals in 23 games for Manchester City U23’s last season. He made 6 appearances off the bench for the senior team last season across all competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.

It is said that Pep Guardiola was reluctant to let McAtee leave on loan this season because he wanted him in and around the matchday squad, as traditionally Guardiola likes to ease talented youngsters into senior football.

This would be the 6th signing of the season for United, the 4th Premier League loan signing and the 2nd season-long loan signing from the Champions of England Manchester City.

Once this deal is officially completed, United will have an array of attacking talent in their squad, and ones who excel in different aspects. Doyle can play as a box-to-box, as well as a number 10. Khadra can play as a 10, as a traditional winger, and as an inside forward. McAtee can play as a 10 and as inside forward, possibly even as a false 9 in a front three.

In a couple of weeks time the Sheffield United XI could look very different to the one that they fielded against Watford.
