Sheffield United’s search to bolster their backline continues after former loanee Paul Connolly joined Leeds United yesterday.

Connolly, who impressed during his spell at Bramall Lane, despite picking up a red card was a target for Blades boss Blackwell this summer, but has instead opted to sign for Simon Grayson’s men.

The defender, signed on loan from Derby County made seven appearances for the Blades, and brought an element of stability to the side when Blackwell’s backline was depleted.

Speaking of his move to Elland Road, Connolly said, ‘There were others – but Leeds gave me a concrete offer.’

Connolly’s acquisition, could leave former Blade Leigh Bromby looking elsewhere if he’s to guarantee himself first team football.

  • Thank god he was bloody useless….surely we could get naughton & walker back permanently! They r doing nothing!

  • Cant lose what we never had. Connolly says Leeds was the only concrete bid, so the infurence is that no one else put a proposition to him, so we didnt lose him to weeds, just didnt want him badly enough. I would have liked to have had him back though.

  • Word from the oracle is that the transfer was free on the basis that Weeds picked up his remaining 12 months of big wages then revised the deal for the next 2 years.

  • No chance of the kyles bfl, might as well forget about them…walker did well in his few pl games and naughton the same at boro…redknapp has said both are likely to be in his squad and if they do go out on loan will be to prem teams this year… I thought connelly was good, apart from that miss at hillsborough!!

  • I agree micksilver, I thought Connolly was solid. I would have liked to sign him, but KB can bring in someone better then so be it. I wouldnt be suprised or disappointed to see Bromby return as a squad player if the price was right.
