It’s a bit of a catch-22 situation for Sheffield United.

Too many good performances, and we risk losing him one way or the other. Not enough success, and we might not be getting the same player back that we’ve become accustomed to.

With recent talk in the press about the possibility of Sheffield United’s goalkeeper Dean Henderson possibly on the verge of an England call-up, and manager of his parent club Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggesting that he has a future at Old Trafford, it’s obvious that he is destined for bigger things in the near future.

The question I’m left asking myself is, do we want Henderson to get an England call-up, especially given that it’s a tournament year?

Being part of the England squad, even if it is as a backup rather than a starter is going to attract plenty of attention to Henderson and make it fair less likely that we’ll be able to keep hold of him after the summer.

The fact that he’s only on loan makes the whole thing harder for us.

Will the Blades be able to keep hold of Henderson in the summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

If he was our player, then we could use it as a way of driving up the price as a way of either making sure we could fund a viable replacement, or to push his valuation up to a price where other clubs wouldn’t want to go near him because we were asking too much.

Either way, the decision may very well be out of our hands this summer, which would be a real shame as I’ve spoken before that I’d rather have him in the squad than have to start all over again at the position.

But with good performances between now and the end of the season, and potentially the summer too, this might be the last few months we see of him at Bramall Lane in a Blades shirt.
