So, we find ourselves at a little bit of a crossroads.

Not only is the footballing world on hiatus, there’s not a lot to talk about, so let’s start looking ahead to the summer transfer window and next season. That is of course, whenever next season happens.

For instance, let’s just say that the unthinkable happens, Dean Henderson leaves us and doesn’t come back, staying at Manchester United. Listening to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, you’d think that he wants to keep him around to be a challenger to David De Gea as the number one between the sticks there. Obviously this contrasts to Henderson’s comments saying that he wants to come back, so at the moment, nothing is assured.

I’ve spoken before about how I believe that it is going to be incredibly important for the club to keep things as close to this season as possible and keep a core of the squad together, perhaps adding one or two pieces to compliment the current side.

However the goalkeeper is a bit of a weird position, the club have got two very experienced backups in the form of Simon Moore, who has been with us since our League One days, and Michael Verrips who racked up over 100 appearances on the continent before moving here in the summer.

If Dean Henderson leaves, what route would you take?

Use what we have

Use what we have

Bring someone in

Bring someone in

I think unless you are 100% certain with what you are getting, like when Everton signed the man who would become England’s number one in Jordan Pickford for £30m, you should never pay that much for a goalkeeper, certainly not the £71m that Chelsea paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

In my mind, if Henderson were to not come back, I think the club would be better off trying out one of the aforementioned Moore and Verrips to take up the job, and perhaps bring in a grizzled old veteran on a cheap deal, like Man City taking on Scott Carson, just as a fallback option, but not to challenge them for the number one spot. Use the money that the club would spend on a goalkeeper on other areas on the pitch.

What about you? Do you think that the club should by a goalkeeper to replace Henderson if he doesn’t come back? Or would you rather us stay with what we have got?

Moore is not good enough, and we have not seen enough of verrips. A good keeper is essential in the premier League. How many points did schmichel save man u?. Must spend the cash to acquire a keeper good enough for the premier League.
