We’ve got a gap that is going to need filling.

Luckily, it would appear as though we’ve got someone who’s going to be more than capable of filling it in the next few games whilst John Egan serves his suspension for his red card from Monday night.

I’m talking of course about Ethan Ampadu, who in his brief appearances for Sheffield United this season have given us just a glimpse of what he’s capable of, now we’ll hopefully get the full show.

According to the BBC ratings of the game, he was our top performer at Villa Park, whilst Kop.Finest gave him joint honours with fellow new signing Oli Burke. Add to that his ‘solid’ debut against fellow Premier League side Burnley in the League Cup last week, and it’s pretty obvious that he belongs in a starting eleven in the Premier League.

Ethan Ampadu will start ____ than 25 games for Sheffield United this season?

And now it’s up to him to seize the opportunity to make it happen.

I said when we were first linked to him that the one thing Ampadu lacked in the past few seasons is regular game time, and if he can put in as good a set of performances that he has done so far and stretch that out across the next couple of games, then I honestly don’t see how we’ll find ourselves in a position to take him out of the team.

I’ve been very high on him, but that’s because I believe he can really keep the team ticking and take us up a level with his ability on the ball, and hopefully we’re on the verge of seeing it happen in Egan’s absence.

What about you? Do you think that Ampadu will get the start in the next game? Or will Chris Wilder go with someone else?
