Sheffield United kept their unbeaten home Premier League record against Arsenal alive last night with a 1-0 victory over the Gunners, much thanks to Lys Mousset’s goal after 30 minutes.
Games across the so called top 6 are going to be difficult this season, whereby points against this list of elite clubs are going to be few and far between. But a well deserved draw at Chelsea and last night’s victory against Arsenal has put the Blades in good stead to staving themselves away from relegation as they pulled themselves up to ninth in the table ahead of a trip to West ham United on Saturday.
The goal came on 30 minutes as a corner saw Lys Mousset unmarked to tap home after Jack O’Connell headed across goal at the far post. This came after the Gunners missed a sitter, when a ball across the United box gave Pepe the simple job of knocking home, but he somehow missed his opportunity and the Blades scrambled away.
The victory sees United unbeaten at home in the Premier League since its existence in 1992, although they have been only four meetings in total. Both the 1992/93 and 1993/94 meetings ended 1-1, whilst in 2006/07 the Blades famously beat the Gunners 1-0, and again it was a Frenchman who scored the winner. You have to go back to 6 April 1991 since Arsenal last won at Bramall Lane.
Match Highlights
In an interview after the match, Blades boss Chris Wilder was overjoyed at the victory. Blades boss Chris Wilder told BBC Sport; “We have deserved to win a tight game. We knew they would have some chances and have a lot of the ball.
“I thought we got the balance tonight. We had to put in a big performance and get a big result. The players know what is expected of them. We have to play, we have played to get into this division and we have to play to keep in the division.
“It is Arsenal, no disrespect it is not a League One team but we have managed to win a tight game at home.”
