David McAllister has spoken for the first time, since agreeing a deal to move to Bramall Lane in January.

The midfielder, currently with League of Ireland side St Patrick’s Athletic was the subject of speculation in the Summer, but appears to have finalised his move to England following another trial this month.

Speaking to the official St Pats website, McAllister said:

i>I think they had some people over to look at me towards the end of the season and then once the season was over I was invited over to Sheffield to train with the team.

Straightaway I was impressed with the facilities- the training ground, the gym, the indoor soccer pitches – everything was laid out for you and everything was really top notch.

It`s a friendly club with a few Irish players already there and I guess that helped as well.

McAllister will join Mark Yeates, Stephen Quinn, and possibly Andy Reid, as manager Gary Speed searches for the luck of the Irish to get his side further up the table.

Due to the 21 year old joining from a club abroad, his registration will not go through until the next transfer window, and it appears there’s training in store before that.

‘I`ve got a training schedule already to maintain. I`m back over again to Sheffield next week for training and after that I`ll be available for selection from 1st January.
